Granite or Quartz? Which is Best for You?

Questions often arise regarding the difference between granite and quartz. The reality is that both are stunningly beautiful, extremely durable and can add the right amount of character to any home project. It’s all about you and your preferences. And so, below are considerations to help you determine which is best for you and your living space!

Granite:

  • It’s 100% natural, crafted and quarried from below the earth’s surface making each slab one of a kind!

  • Offers great variety in colors and texture – uniquely crafted below the earths crust. Each slab offers its own individuality, rendering no two pieces exactly alike, capturing a true artist’s tapestry of natural beauty. It is recommended that customers preview slabs for color and texture preference, as not everyone has the same taste.

  • Depending on veining of texture and color, some patterns will show seams more than others.

  • Granite is typically sealed before the installation process. Otherwise, keeping it clean simply entails a warm, soapy dish cloth and a towel dry.

  • Costs vary depending on factors like where its quarried and how rare of a stone it is. Prices can range from $45-$100+/sq ft.

Quartz (Engineered Stone):

  • Its 93-97% natural. The natural quartz crystals are mixed with color pigments and polymer resign, which binds it all together. While this decreases a pieces’ uniqueness of color/texture variability, it is not often perceived to have any “imperfections”.

  • Seams will be less visible given the consistency of pattern.

  • Colors could fade overtime if exposed to direct sunlight.

  • As durable as granite.

  • No sealing is required for “quartz” products. It’s also less prone to staining. Simply clean with a warm, soapy dish cloth and towel dry.

  • Costs vary depending on where the quartz is quarried. Many are quarried overseas. Prices can range from $55-$100/sq ft.
